Classic Footwear From the Adidas Brand: Beckenbauer and More

Adidas have been operating within the sportswear market for the greatest part of 100 years. Their founder, Adi Dassler, an avid sports fan, but also a manufacturer of shoes, wanted to create a training shoe that could enhance the prowess of the wearer, but which could also protect the feet from the injuries inherent in sports. Over the years, the brand has evolved, and today, we know them as much for their fashion, as they are for their proficiency in the manufacturing of high quality sportswear. It is to fashion that we will now turn, focusing in particular on the Adidas Originals merchandise.

Vintage Adidas clothing has become a much sought after brand in recent years, particularly since the opening of the Adidas Originals franchises, which opened firstly in America, and then South Korea, but which has fast become a global phenomena, gaining particular success within the online clothing market. Adidas began manufacturing their Originals range more than 10 years ago, when they realised that there was a great demand for retro clothing.

They certainly conquered the sportswear retro niche market, an area they continue to dominate today – and unsurprisingly so given the fine quality of many of their designs, the Adidas Beckenbauer trainers are particularly popular. This style of trainer has the classic Adidas look, indeed, if you asked most people to draw a picture of a trainer that they believe is iconic of the Adidas brand, then the Adidas Beckenbauer would be the shoe that most people would sketch.

The Adidas Beckenbauer trainers came out during the early 1980s, created in celebration of the great footballer Franz Beckenbauer, who played for Germany in the World Cup matches of 1966, 1970, and 1974 – and a great tribute they are to a fantastic footballer.

They are particularly reminiscent of the Britpop Era of the 1990s, and as such, highly sought after by the fashion gurus amongst us who love to emulate this style of clothing. If you love that iconic Britpop look, then the Adidas brand is perfect for you, here is our fashion tip. Wear a pair of straight leg jeans in the worn-out look, team with an Adidas t-shirt sporting a large Trefoil logo, rather than the simple three stripes version, wear a pair of Beckenbauer or Samba trainers, carry across one shoulder a Retro Airline Shoulder Bag in brown, and voila, your look is complete.

The Adidas Originals brand is great for nostalgic people. They have resurrected many of the popular lines from the 80s and 90s and brought them together into a perfect fashion statement – ideal for cool kids everywhere. If you love old school (Britpop and Hip Hop in particular), then you will love this range of clothing. Their trainers in particular are great, and aside from the Adidas Beckenbauer style outlined above, you will find many of the old classics: Adidas Spezial Trainers, Adidas Gazelle, Adidas Beckenbauer Trainers, Adidas Gazelle 2 Trainers, Adidas SL72 Trainers, Blue, Adidas Samba Trainers and Adidas Trimm Trab Trainers, for example. When you see them, you will recognise them instantly…if you are sufficiently old to remember the 80s and 90s!

Why We Wear New Clothes on Easter - A History of the Tradition From a Fashion School Perspective

Many of us can remember our parents dressing us up in new clothes every Easter so we could parade around the neighborhood in our finest. It was a fun tradition to look forward to (or avoid, as some fashion-phobic children were known to do), whether we went to church or […]
